| CVTC Announces EAGLE Winners |
|
Two extraordinary students, Anita Couey and Russell Logan were chosen this year to represent Coosa Valley Technical College in the annual EAGLE Awards for 2002-2003. They, joined by their instructors, will represent the college at the state finals in Atlanta in January.
EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgians in Literacy Education) is an award program for adults who are enrolled in Georgia’s Adult Literacy Programs through the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. EAGLE is a program that was created to reward adult learners for the efforts they make in returning to school to gain essential literacy skills, earn a high school diploma, or learn to use English as a secondary language. State level EAGLE winners will become “Ambassadors for Literacy,” and will represent Georgia and the department at various events throughout their years of service.
The Adult Literacy Program strives to create and maintain a literate Georgia where its citizens have all the skills and credentials needed not only to be excellent workers, but also to be well-rounded citizens who effectively perform all of their roles as part of a community. CVTC strives to achieve this goal by offering free programs for those adults who need to improve reading and math skills, study for the Georgia high school exam (GED), prepare for technical education and training beyond the high school level, and pursue the English language and citizenship skills. CVTC offers Adult Education Centers in Cedartown, Rockmart, Rome, and Calhoun and is in partnership with local school systems, community organizations, and libraries. Contracted services are also available for businesses, industries and correctional institutions that would like to offer adult education services to their employees.
