| The CVTC Foundation Fourth Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament is a Success |
|
The Fourth Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by the Coosa Valley Technical College Foundation was played at Stonebridge on Wednesday, October 16, 2002. Approximately 30 teams competed in the sunny weather. The team representing Ingersoll-Rand of Atlanta won the tournament and celebrated with prizes and refreshments. This year’s tournament turned out to be the most successful in its history with over $24,000 in proceeds raised. The event was full of sun, fun, food, golf, awards and prizes.
In keeping with the Foundation’s mission to ensure that the College fulfills its promise to provide the very best in technical education, funds raised from the tournament are being used to provide assistance to CVTC students. Otis Raybon Jr., Chairman of the CVTC Foundation states, “Even though the HOPE Grant pays tuition and fees for many of our students, there are still times when additional financial assistance is needed. The proceeds from this tournament, played in memory of J.D. Powell, former president of the college, make it possible for students to complete their education.” This year’s proceeds will also be used to purchase equipment for CVTC programs, provide training for the faculty and staff and will enhance marketing and public relations efforts. The event could not have taken place without generous sponsorships including Gold sponsors Mohawk Industries Inc. and Pirelli Tire North America. The Corporate Sponsors included By Design Lawn Care, Citizen’s First Bank, Davies Higher Education Services LLC, Fox Systems, Piedmont Furniture, Rome News Tribune, Rome Tool and Die Company, United Community Bank and Vend-Rite, Inc. Heritage Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Honda sponsored this year’s hole-in-one prize, a Buick Rendezvous.
CVTC is one of Georgia’s leading technical colleges and is poised to continue to benefit the citizen’s of Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama. The efforts of the Foundation’s trustees will impact the college’s capabilities for many years in the future.
