Record Enrollment for Coosa Valley Technical College
Once again Coosa Valley Technical College has achieved a record enrollment. The college, which has been among the state’s fastest growing for the past several years, enrolled 3,323 students on its Floyd, Gordon, and Polk County campuses for fall quarter, which began September 30. This enrollment is the largest in the college’s forty-one year history according to Dr. Steve Bradshaw, Vice President of Student Services.

The college reports a record 2,226 students on the Floyd County Campus, 710 on the Gordon County Campus, and 387 on the Polk County Campus, which is also a record. “We are limited on the Floyd County Campus due to lack of classroom space, but feel we have unlimited growth potential once our new facilities are available,” said Dr. Teresa Resch, Vice President of Instructional Services.

The college will move into the 53,000 square feet Allied Health Center in November and the newly renovated 25,500 sq. ft. Springwood Technology Center in January, according to Craig McDaniel, President. “In addition, we have an Economic Development Center on the Polk County Campus, which will be completed by mid 2004.” McDaniel said.

“The state has wisely invested in the infrastructure of Georgia’s technical college system, and we have received national attention for efforts in workforce development,” McDaniel stated. Expansion Management magazine ranked Georgia the number one state in the nation in 2002 citing the state’s technical college system and Quick Start program as the primary factors.

“The College’s Strategic Plan calls for an enrollment of 5,000 students in the fall quarter of 2007, a number that is attainable if certain things happen,” McDaniel stated. “Continued cuts to our operating budget or significant change to the HOPE program will affect us in a negative way and limit our ability to serve students,” he said.

Coosa Valley Technical College is one of thirty-four colleges that make up the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education. The system services all of Georgia’s 159 counties through 66 campuses strategically located throughout the state.
