Michelle L. Earley named as the State of Georgia’s 2002 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year for Technical Colleges
On Thursday, May 30, 2002, Michelle L. Earley, a Business Office Technology instructor on the Gordon County Campus of Coosa Valley Technical College, was named the Department of Technical and Adult Education’s Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year.

Michelle was chosen as the State Winner after a rigorous interview process that began this past March. Once selected as the Rick Perkins Award winner at Coosa Valley Technical College, Michelle then competed against other instructors from colleges in the Northwest Georgia consortium. After being named the Northwest Georgia Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year, Michelle then interviewed along with the other five Consortium winners from across the state. Finally, the process that began with a total of 34 instructors ended with Ms. Earley being named as the Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year.

The Rick Perkins Award, formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, was established to recognize and honor an outstanding Instructor of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through instructional excellence, outstanding leadership qualities, and dedication to the mission of the Department of Technical and Adult Education.

As the recipient of the Rick Perkins Award, Ms. Earley will serve as an ambassador for technical education in the State of Georgia for the next year. Her duties include addressing the general assembly and attending the Georgia Fall Leadership Conference among many other responsibilities.

Michelle began teaching at Coosa Valley Technical College in 1998 in the Business Office Technology program on the Gordon County Campus. Ms. Earley is a graduate of Covenant College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management and an Associate of Applied Science degree from Dalton College. Michelle is the Business Office Technology Northwest Consortium Chair and serves on the Ambassadors and Education Committee at the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce.

Michelle and her husband, Kent, have one son and reside in Dalton.
