J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament

Coosa Valley Technical College held the 6th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament at Cherokee Golf and Country Club in Cedartown on September 23, 2004. The Golf Tournament brought in over $11,000 for the Coosa Valley Technical College Foundation. There were 16 bronze sponsors which donated $1,000 each and one $5,000 silver sponsor.

Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family, J.W. LeGrande, Tommy Curtis, and Otis Raybon, CVTC Board Members, Laura Gammage, Assistant Commisioner at DTAE, among many others. Teams that participated in the tournament included, Davies Higher Education Services; First National Bank of Polk County; Fox Systems, Inc.; Georgia Bank and Trust; Georgia Power Company; Gordon Hospital; Heritage Pontiac-Buick-GMC-Honda; Johnson’s Printing Company; Mannington Carpets; Mohawk Industries (2 teams); News Publishing Company; North Georgia National Bank; Piedmont Furniture Company; Pinson’s Inc.; Powell Family Team (3 teams); Redmond Regional Medical Center; Rome Tool and Die Company; Shepherd’s Tree and Sweeping Service; The Hon Company; Three Rivers Nursery; United Community Bank; and Vend-Rite Vending.

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into three flights and prizes were given to the first and second place teams in each flight. The championship award went to Georgia Bank and Trust.

In keeping with the Foundation’s mission to ensure that the College fulfills its promise to provide the very best in technical education, funds raised from the tournament are being used to provide scholarships and financial assistance to CVTC students, purchase equipment for programs, provide training for faculty and staff, and further marketing and public relations efforts.
