Congressman Phil Gingrey visited Coosa Valley Technical College’s Floyd County Campus on November 12, 2003. CVTC President Craig McDaniel, and Vice President of Instructional Services Dr. Teresa Resch led Gingrey on a tour of CVTC’s campus including the new 54,000 square foot Health Occupations Education Center and Library.

Following the tour, Gingrey addressed CVTC students, faculty, and staff in an open forum. Gingrey told students that as Congressman, he would fight for each and every job in the 11th District. Gingrey opened up the forum for questions. Students and staff asked a variety of questions on topics including the economy, the HOPE Grant, and how to prevent American jobs from being transferred overseas. Gingrey stated that the loss of manufacturing jobs is occurring because of an increase in productivity due to automation and not because jobs are being transferred overseas.

Gingrey hopes that a tax decrease from 35 percent to 32 percent will be an incentive for companies to remain in the US and not transfer operations overseas.
