Special Olympian Has "Attitude" Katy Wilson, niece of Dental Hygiene Instructor Donna Sutton, was recently the keynote speaker at CVTC’s Gordon County Campus Work Ethics presentation. Wilson is an International Global Messenger for Special Olympics. A native of Gwinnett County, Wilson has been competing in the Special Olympics for 19 years. She competes in tennis, bowling, and her favorite sport, gymnastics.
Global Messengers are Special Olympics athletes who help spread the message and vision, as well as the benefits they have gained, by participating in Special Olympics. As leaders and message-bearers, Global Messengers communicate the powerful declarations of hope, acceptance, dignity, and courage of Special Olympics athletes around the world. Only athletes can effectively relate the impact that Special Olympics has had on their lives and the lives of their families. Currently in Special Olympics, 23,000 athletes compete in 23 sports.
Katy Wilson travels the country speaking about attitude. Katy’s motto is to always “Think, yes I can.” When asked how she can do so much, she says, “It just takes the right attitude.” Katy challenged the students in attendance to “be brave, work hard, and help each other, so we can all be winners together.”
