Coosa Valley Technical College Receives SACS-COC Accreditation Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) has been granted accreditation through the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC). The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the SACS-COC Annual Meeting in Kissimmee, FL.
SACS-COC is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia) and in Latin America for institutions of higher education that award associate, bachelor’s, master's, or doctoral degrees. The agency examines all aspects of college operations and makes recommendations on how the school can improve. To gain or maintain accreditation with the Commission on Colleges, an institution must comply with the standards contained in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement and with the policies and procedures of the Commission on Colleges.
The announcement brings about the completion of a six year effort to obtain accreditation through SACS-COC. CVTC began preparing for accreditation in 2000. Following a successful candidacy visit, CVTC officially became a candidate for accreditation in April 2005. In April 2006, a team from SACS-COC conducted an accreditation visit and the results were overwhelmingly positive for the college. In the written report given to CVTC and SACS-COC, the team chair, Dr. Pat Robertson, wrote, “Most notable at Coosa Valley Technical College is a common thread of excellence, observed in passionate employees who believe in the college’s mission, in the modern facilities, up-to-date equipment and technology, publications, and other learning resources.”
“This achievement is a tribute to every member of the college’s faculty and staff, especially our COC leadership team: Diane Blair, Director of Institutional Effectiveness; Steve Bradshaw, Vice President of Student Services; Linda Floyd, Director of Library Services; Nina Lovel, Webmaster/Data Management Coordinator; Pete McDonald, Vice President of Economic Development; Heidi Popham, Executive Assistant to the President; Teresa Resch, Vice President of Instructional Services; and Terry Williamson, Vice President of Administrative Services,” stated CVTC President, Craig McDaniel. “We simply felt attaining SACS-COC accreditation would improve the quality of every aspect of the college’s relationship with our students.”
CVTC is also accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE) to award diplomas, certificates, and associate degrees.
The faculty and staff at CVTC have worked very hard to receive SACS-COC accreditation. Receiving this additional accreditation will only further enhance CVTC’s ability to provide excellent, quality education and services for our students and the communities we serve.
