The University of Georgia (UGA) Extension, Coosa Valley Technical College, the Georgia Center for Urban Agriculture, the USDA Risk Management Agency, and GGIA partnered to present the Rome’n the Green conference on Thursday, February 15, 2006. Approximately 121 people from all over Northwest Georgia were in attendance to receive credits in turf and landscape education from the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
“Rome n’ the Green is a great way to provide environmental horticulture and turf control education, not only landscapers and horticulture professionals, but to anyone willing to learn,” stated Floyd County Extension Agent, Keith Mickler.
Guest speakers at the conference included Dr. Sue Hamilton, University of Tennessee Department of Plant Sciences; Dr. Tim Murphy, University of Georgia Professor of Weed Science; and many others. Sessions included topics on turf maintenance, turf weed control, ornamental disease control, tough trees and shrubs for Georgia, adding color to landscaping, turf disease control, turf insect control, ornamental insect control, and the top 10 things to do with a dead plant. The conference ended with an informative discussion panel.
