Rome High Students Bridge with CVTC In an orientation session held recently at Rome High School, students were challenged to “cross the bridge” to Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC).
Rome High seniors, juniors, and sophomores attended an orientation session on Wednesday, March, 19, 2008, where they learned all the benefits of the Bridge program. “The Bridge program is a collaborative effort between Coosa Valley Technical College and Rome High School,” stated Lisa DiPrima, Career Transition Specialist at Coosa Valley Technical College. “This program bridges the gap between high school and college.” Juniors and seniors at Rome High School are being offered a chance to go to high school and college at the same time. By participating in dual enrollment, students can earn college credits by taking classes in CVTC programs of study while they are earning their high school diploma.
There are 10 programs currently being offered through the Bridge program. Students can earn certificates in Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Certified Customer Service, Computer Information Systems, Cosmetology (emphasis in nail tech), Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Patient Care Assisting.
At the orientation session, Dr. Tygar Evans, Principal at Rome High School, explained to students the benefits of the Bridge program. Students then watched a 30 minute DVD showcasing the programs they can enroll in at CVTC.
Following the orientation, CVTC instructors were on hand to answer questions.
“The students at Rome High were excited about the chance to participate in dual enrollment with Coosa Valley Technical College,” stated Amber Jordan, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at CVTC. “They were asking our instructors a lot of good questions about our programs of study.”
