Richards Chosen CVTC’s Director of Financial Aid Dr. Steve Bradshaw, Vice President of Student Services for Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC), recently announced the promotion of Sonya Richards to Director of Financial Aid.
Richards earned a bachelor’s of business administration degree from West Georgia College and a master’s of public administration degree from Jacksonville State University. Richards received credentials as a Certified Career Development Coach in 2000.
Richards joined CVTC in 1999 as a Workshop Facilitator for the New Connections to Work program. Richards led job readiness workshops, assisted clients in preparing resumes and completing job searches, and informed participants in the educational opportunities available at CVTC. In 2000, Richards became a Workforce Investment Specialist. She recruited applicants through outreach on campus, worked with employers during plant closings to recruit students, and worked closely with student services and financial aid to ensure student success. Richards joined the career transition specialist team for CVTC in 2005. In this position, she developed recruitment strategies for high school students, hosted potential students and parents during campus tours, and provided information to students about the admissions process, articulated credit, dual enrollment, and financial aid.
As the Director of Financial Aid for Coosa Valley Technical College, Richards will be responsible for operations of the financial aid offices on all three CVTC campuses. She will coordinate the financial assistance program for the college, provide information to prospective and enrolled students, coordinate the preparation and maintenance of active and inactive financial aid program files and records, and prepare and analyze financial aid reports.
“Sonya has proven to be an asset in her previous roles at Coosa Valley Technical College and will serve our students well as Director of Financial Aid,” stated Bradshaw.
