Raybon Appointed to the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Otis M. Raybon, Jr. was recently appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the State Board of Technical and Adult Education as the 11th Congressional District Representative. The State Board of Technical and Adult Education is responsible for establishing standards, regulations, and policies for the operation of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, the state's 34 technical colleges (including Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC)), economic development programs, and adult literacy education programs. The Board promotes the economic well-being of Georgia citizens by ensuring high quality training and upgrade training and services as a full partner in the expansion of Georgia's economic base. Raybon, the vice president of operations for News Publishing Company, has a long history with technical education. He has served six years on Coosa Valley Technical College’s Board of Directors and is the Coosa Valley Technical College Foundation Chairman. Prior to being involved with CVTC, Raybon was Chairman for Griffin Technical College’s Certified Literate Community Program, which was the first program in the state to be certified. He also served on the Board of Directors at Griffin Technical College for seven years. Raybon is a member of the Rome/Floyd Development Authority and was chairman of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. He is the regional advisory council member for region one of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. His educational background includes an associate’s degree from Gordon College and a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. “Serving as a board member for Coosa Valley Technical College and Griffin Technical College has allowed me to gain an understanding of the many programs that technical colleges offer communities and individual students. I hope that I can use my experience at the state board by helping all colleges and students to have the very best programs and training,” stated Raybon. Raybon is the first CVTC Board Member to ever be appointed to the State Board of Technical and Adult Education. “Otis understands the practical value of technical education at the community level, and he will be a vocal supporter of our continued growth as he assumes his role as a state board member,” commented Coosa Valley Technical College President, Craig McDaniel.
