Powell Memorial Golf Tournament 2006

Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) held the 8th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia, on September 22, 2006. The Golf Tournament brought in over $5,000 for the Coosa Valley Technical College Foundation.

Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family; J.W. LeGrande, chairman of CVTC’s Board of Directors; Todd Murphy, CVTC board member; Dr. Ken Breeden, retired Commissioner of the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE); Laura Gammage, Assistant Commissioner of DTAE; Dr. David Cox, Lionell Earwood, and Jim Russell, retired CVTC employees; among many others.

Teams that participated in the tournament included, Citizen’s First, Davies Higher Education Services, Faus Group, First National Bank of Polk County, Floyd Medical Center, Fox Systems, Inc., Georgia Power Company, Harbin Clinic, Millican’s Foodland, News Publishing Company, North Georgia National Bank, Piedmont Furniture Company, Pinson’s Inc., Profile Extrusion Company, Redmond Regional Medical Center, Rome Tool & Die Company, The HON Company, Three Rivers Nursery, United Community Bank, and Vend-Rite, Inc. Additional supporters of the tournament included: J.L. Todd Auction Company, Hi-Tech Signs, and Heritage Pontiac Buick GMC, who offered a new car for a hole-in-one.

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into three flights and prizes were given to the first and second place teams in each flight. First place in the championship flight was awarded to Three Rivers Nursery. Team members included: Greg Clark, John Graham, David Evans, and Steve Googe. Second place in the championship flight went to Fox Systems, Inc.

In keeping with the Foundation’s mission to ensure that the College fulfills its promise to provide the very best in technical education, funds raised from the tournament are used to provide scholarships and financial assistance to CVTC students.
