LAYNE SELECTED AS COOSA VALLEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE’S 2006 INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) recently named Mark Layne, Radiologic Technology Program Director and Instructor, as the 2006 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year.
As CVTC’s 2006 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year, Layne will compete among other technical college instructors at the local consortium level. Consortia winners receive statewide recognition for their achievement, and then move on to state-level competition. Final state-level judging will occur in September, and the Rick Perkins Award Winner will be announced at the Lighthouse Institute in Augusta, Georgia.
Layne’s educational background includes a Diploma in Radiologic Technology from Coosa Valley Technical College, an Associate of Applied Science in Health Occupations from Floyd College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management of Health Services from Ottawa University in Kansas City, Kansas, and a Masters Degree in Education from Berry College. He is currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Health Science Administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.
“Mark does an excellent job in the classroom and representing our college throughout the healthcare community,” stated Coosa Valley Technical College President, Craig McDaniel.
Instructors were nominated for the Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year by other faculty and staff at CVTC. Eight instructors were nominated to compete for the title of CVTC’s Instructor of the Year including, Donna Andrews, Biology and Phlebotomy Instructor; Coleen Brooks, Adult Literacy Instructor; Jan Carney, Computer Information Systems Instructor; Donna Howard, General Education Instructor; Mark Layne, Radiologic Technology Instructor; Candie Reece, Business and Office Technology Instructor; Jennifer Stephenson, Medical Assisting Instructor; and Bea Stitzer, Early Childhood Care and Education Instructor. The nominees went through an interview process conducted by a panel of judges made up of local business leaders.
