The HON Company was awarded Georgia’s 2006 Manufacturer of the Year Award at the annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week luncheon today at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta, Georgia.

Todd Murphy, Vice President and General Manager for The HON Company, accepted the award on behalf of the company. “What we do is not all about making a profit; it’s about making a substantial impact on our community and providing jobs for people in the Polk County Community and the State of Georgia. We have a great partnership with the Polk County Chamber of Commerce, Coosa Valley Technical College, and Georgia Quick Start, it’s a collective effort,” Murphy said.

“We have been nominated for this award multiple times and winning it this year lets us know that we are on the right track with what we are doing at HON,” stated Murphy.

HON, which employees over 700 in its Cedartown plant, is no stranger to awards ceremonies. In 2004, The HON Company received the Georgia Oglethorpe Award for Organizational Performance Excellence; and the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing in 2003.

“HON is tremendously effective in enabling employees to improve the manufacturing process,” stated Pete McDonald, Vice President of Economic Development for Coosa Valley Technical College. “With innovative ideas like ‘Rapid, Continuous Improvement’, HON consistently gives the customer a better product,” McDonald added.

The HON Company was nominated by Coosa Valley Technical College and the Polk County Chamber of Commerce for Manufacturer of the Year in the medium size manufacturer category. Also nominated by Coosa Valley Technical College, Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and Gordon County Chamber of Commerce were OMNOVA Solutions, Inc. of Gordon County, F&P Georgia of Floyd County, and Florida Tile of Floyd County.

The Manufacturer of the Year Award was presented by Lonice Barrett, Director of Implementation for the Office of the Governor, as part of the Manufacturing Appreciation Week Awards Ceremony.
