Coosa Valley Technical College Announces Four Local Finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership
Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) recently announced the four local finalists who have been chosen to compete for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL). The finalists were Mike Barton in Respiratory Care, Bruce Mashburn in Vascular Technology, Donald Wallace in Nuclear Medicine, and Jennifer Dempsey Wright in Practical Nursing.

First launched in 1971, GOAL focuses on excellence in technical education and recognizes students for academic excellence and personal achievement. Forty-three students were nominated by their instructors to compete at the local level, which included GOAL nominees from the Floyd, Gordon, and Polk County Campuses of CVTC. On Wednesday, February 15, the nominees participated in an interview process with a panel of four judges. The judges rated the students based on their interview performance. The four local GOAL finalists were selected based on a combination of their interview scores, academic grades, and an instructor evaluation. The finalists will be interviewed by a selection committee chosen by the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. One local GOAL winner will be chosen to compete at the state GOAL competition in May. The winner of the state GOAL title will receive the GOAL medallion and the grand prize, a new automobile. The state winner’s college GOAL coordinator and the nominating instructor will receive a check for $250.
