"Exceptional Adult Georgians in Literacy Education"
Photos

Nancy M. Bowman and Howard Joe Neal, both GED Graduates from Coosa Valley Technical College, will represent the school at Georgia’s Annual EAGLE Awards Assembly January 19-20, 2005. Two students are selected from each Service Delivery Area in Georgia’s Adult Literacy Programs to participate in the recognition activities each January in Atlanta. Ms. Bowman represents Coosa Valley’s Polk County Campus, and Mr. Neal represents the Gordon County Campus. Nominating instructors are Anne K. Clay of Cedartown and Spence Ramsey of Calhoun, and both will accompany the students to the EAGLE activities.

Nancy Bowman used the adult education program and GED Graduation as a gateway to employment and to further education and training in CVTC’s Dental Assisting Program. Joey Neal recognized his need for further education as the father of two children whose future he knows depends on education. Both instructors saw in their nominees the exceptional qualities the EAGLE Awards Program looks for: positive attitude; dedication; determination; compassion; patience; consideration; eagerness; faithfulness; commitment; ability to articulate the value of education in their lives.

EAGLE provides adult students the opportunity for recognition and personal growth. Activities include public speaking, interviews with panels of distinguished judges from across Georgia, success seminars, and occasions to meet adult students and instructors from other schools. Two EAGLES are chosen at the end of the competition to represent Georgia as “Ambassadors” for the Adult Education Program for a year. State winners’ prizes include $2005 each in cash awards. All participants receive EAGLE mementos of what is always an enjoyable time in Atlanta.

The EAGLE Banquet on Thursday evening, January 20, will be the culminating activity at which state winners are named. A delegation of Coosa Valley Technical College staff and faculty will be on hand to support their representatives.
