Carpentry Students Assist 5th Avenue Health Care
The Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) Carpentry students recently installed a piece of custom-made exercise equipment for the residents of 5th Avenue Health Care. The residents needed a piece of equipment that would allow them to do a stair-climbing type of exercise inside, regardless of the weather outside. The class designed a series of stairs with non-skid treads and handrails to increase stability. This custom equipment would have cost approximately $1500.00, if purchased from an exercise equipment company. “We were able to complete the job for under $150, far less than a comparable commercial unit,” said Barry Webb, CVTC Carpentry Instructor. “This was a great project for the class. It gave us experience with stair design and construction.” The activity staff of 5th Avenue Health Care was overjoyed with the equipment. They promised to spread the word about the generosity of CVTC’s students, faculty and staff. |
