CVTC Student to Serve on Vascular Ultrasound Society’s Board of Directors

Bruce Mashburn, Vascular Technology student at Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) and CVTC’s 2006 GOAL Winner, has been chosen as the Student Member of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound Board for 2006-2007. As the Student Member of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), Mashburn will be traveling to Philadelphia later this month to attend the May 2006 SVU Board meeting and the Vascular Annual Meeting. Mashburn will get an insiders view of the SVU, and provide his perspective as a new member to the field of vascular ultrasound. In addition, he will be profiled in the SVU’s online newsletter, “e-Spectrum”, as well as, contribute an article to be published in “e-Spectrum” about his experience.

The Society for Vascular Ultrasound is the major national organization for Vascular Sonography. The SVU is the only professional organization completely dedicated to the advancement of noninvasive vascular technology used in the diagnosis of vascular disease. The SVU has more than 3,500 vascular technologists, physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals as its members. SVU offers many services including: educational programs, publications, networking opportunities, and government representation.

This is the second year the board of directors decided to offer this opportunity to a student of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Vascular Ultrasound program. Mashburn was selected for this honor based on his enrollment in CVTC’s CAAHEP accredited Vascular Technology program, his application, and his student membership in the SVU.
