CVTC Education is a Lee Family Tradition The Lee family has a longer history with Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) than possibly any other family. Over the last 4 decades, CVTC has graduated three generations of Lee men. Fay Lee graduated from Electrical Appliance Servicing in 1967. His son Bradley Lee, graduated in 1976 from Electrical Appliance Servicing, as well. Josh Lee, son of Bradley, is the most recent graduate. He completed his Vascular Technology degree in 2006.
Recently, the Lee’s toured their alma mater and reminisced about their days at Coosa Valley Tech. Fay Lee remarked, “The training I got at Coosa Valley prepared the way for me to get into my field.” The elder Lee was instructed by the late Paul Nicholson. After graduation, he was employed by Sears and retired after 32 years of service. “As we went through the tour, I just couldn’t believe the new technology involved. I know Coosa Valley is preparing our young people for a better life,” stated Fay Lee.
Bradley Lee, owner of Bradley Lee Service Company, followed in his father’s footsteps at Coosa Valley Tech. As a child, he always enjoyed working with his hands and would often accompany his father to work. “I have always been mechanically minded. I just felt it would be a good career and I have never regretted it, I love what I do,” said Bradley Lee. In fact, Bradley Lee valued a CVTC education so much he returned to CVTC to teach HVAC part-time from 1994-1996 along side two of his instructors, Rick House and Gene Evans.
Josh Lee, who is employed as a Vascular Sonographer by University Surgical Associates, chose a different path. “Neither one of them tried to persuade me into going into what they did, they told me to do whatever would make me happy. As I was growing up, my Dad owned his own business so I worked with him and I got to see what he did everyday. I respect him for what he does, he works hard, but I decided to go in another direction. I had been looking into the medical field for a long time and I found out Coosa Valley had the program,” said Josh Lee. Josh Lee, instructed by Leif Penrose, really values his time at CVTC. “We do exactly what a regular tech does in a medical setting and that’s how we learn,” affirmed Josh.
“It really is special to actually have graduated from the same college my Granddad and my Dad graduated. It means a lot to our family,” emphasized Josh Lee. The Lee’s all agree that graduating from Coosa Valley Tech is a special accomplishment that the three can share.
