Coosa Valley Technical College Becomes a 5-Star Employer
On Tuesday, June 6, 2006, Coosa Valley Technical College received the 5- Star Statement of Support Employer designation from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). All three campuses of CVTC, Floyd, Gordon, and Polk County, received the designation.

An agency within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, ESGR operates programs aimed at U.S. employers, employees, and communities to further understanding of the role of Reserve component (referring to the total of all National Guard members and Reserve forces from all branches of the military) members.

The ESGR 5-Star Employer Program informs and educates employers about their rights and responsibilities concerning their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. The designation recognizes and rewards employers who go above and beyond the requirements of the law and offer a greater level of support to National Guard and Reserve employees.

A 5-Star Employer status denotes the employer has completed the following: has a signed Statement of Support publicly signifying support for their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve, the employer has reviewed their human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act Law (USERRA), promotes training for managers and supervisors to effectively manage their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve, adopted policies and programs that are “above and beyond” what is required by the USERRA Law, and serves as an advocate for employee service in the National Guard and Reserve and helps to promote the mission of ESGR.

“Coosa Valley Technical College is the first higher education institute in North Georgia to become a 5-Star Employer,” stated William V. Wigley, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for the Georgia Committee.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to offer this level of support for the men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserve,” stated Dr. Craig McDaniel, President of Coosa Valley Technical College.

The nation's Reserve components comprise approximately 46 percent of our total available military manpower.
