| Who needs disability assistance? |
|
Any person who has a physical or mental condition that substantially limits one or more major life activities such as caring for oneself, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working and experiencing leisure, may be eligible. Some of the conditions for which help may be provided include:
Visual
Speech
Mobility
Coordination
Hearing
Cognitive Impairments
Attention Disorders
Learning Disabilities
Emotional Conditions
Chronic or Temporary Illness.

| How can disability assistance help? |
|
| Disability Assistance Services will work with you to determine if you are eligible for services. We will guide you in obtaining the required documentation of your disability and resulting limitations. If you are eligible, we will help arrange accommodations that are needed to compensate for your limitations. Participation in the program is confidential. |
| What do I have to do to receive services? |
|
1. Schedule an appointment with the ADA coordinator, Sheila Parker, located on the Floyd County Campus and request Disability Assistance services.
2. Provide recent documentation of the disability and resulting limitations or see about having a complete assessment through Vocational Rehabilitation.
3. Work with Sheila Parker and the faculty at Coosa Valley Technical College to arrange accommodations as circumstances change.
4. Provide updates to Sheila Parker of your progress and request adjustments to
accommodations as circumstances change.

| What are examples of accommodations? |
|
Accommodations include:
Tape-recording of lectures, and books on tape
Volunteer note takers, specialized seating, and designated seating
Extended time for exams and assignments
Distraction free testing environment
Modified computer equipment, and specialized software
Use of calculator.
