Financial Aid
Coosa Valley Technical College offers two types of financial aid:
The HOPE Program and the Pell Grant.

Hope Grant
(for Diploma or Certificate seeking students) |
|
1. Must be a Georgia resident for at least one (1) year prior to the quarter of attendance.
2. Must not be in default or behind in payments on a student loan.
3. Must not be convicted of a felony drug offense within 90 days prior to the quarter of attendance.

Hope Scholarship Requirements
(for Associate Degree Applicants) |

1. Must be a Georgia resident for at least one (1) year prior to the quarter of attendance.
2. Must not be in default or behind in payments on a student loan.
3. Must not be convicted of a felony drug offense within 90 days prior to the quarter of attendance.
4. Graduated from high school since 1994 with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
5. Transfer student that has completed at least 45, 90, or 135 credits with a 3.0 GPA.
6. Please submit appropriate transcripts to the financial aid office.
NOTE: In some cases, an application must be completed to have your GPA calculated to determine HOPE Scholarship eligibility. Please see the Financial Aid office for more information.
The HOPE Grant/Scholarship will cover the majority of mandatory fees (tuition, registration, activity and insurance) per quarter plus provide a $100 book voucher for students registered for 6 or more credit hours and a $50 book voucher for those registered for 5 of less credit hours. Students are responsible for a $35 technology fee that is due each quarter of enrollment.

| Pell Grant |

Students who wish to be considered for the Pell Grant should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application requires information from your most recent Federal income tax return. Please provide a copy of your 2007 Federal income tax return, along with your application. Do not mail this application. The financial aid office will process your application electronically. If you wish to complete the FAFSA online, you may do so by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students eligible for the Pell Grant may receive a Pell check at the end of the quarter of attendance.

IMPORTANT
(How to maintain the Hope Grant and the Pell Grant) |

| To receive Pell, students must have a high school diploma or GED. Pell and HOPE regulations require students to maintain satisfactory progress status. To maintain satisfactory academic progress, students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) and complete at least 67% of all course work attempted. Students who do not complete at least 67% of quarterly coursework attempted will be placed on financial aid probation. After the student loses financial aid eligibility due to academic or financial aid suspension, the student will regain eligibility when he/she attains a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and has a completion rate of at least 67%. |

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen. Students who have attended schools beyond high school must provide CVTC with a financial aid transcript from the last school attended-even if they did not receive financial aid.
Male students must be in good standing with Selective Service. You may check your registration status by visiting the Selective Service homepage.

The Director of Financial Aid is Sonya Richards and the financial aid specialists are Lynn Gore, Mary Bramblett, Becky Turner, and Jim Bowers. The financial aid office is located in the Office of Student Services and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Veterans Aid
Eligible veterans and their dependents may use VA benefits. You may see Lynn Gore in the Financial Aid office for assistance. Vocational Rehabilitation will sponsor certain students with handicapping conditions. You can reach Ms. Gore at (706) 802-5382. |
